Album

From the Choirgirl Hotel is the fourth studio album by American singer and songwriter Tori Amos, released on May 5, 1998. A departure from her previous albums, it was more a heavily produced project featuring elements of electronic music and a full rock band sound instead of Amos's usual minimalist piano sound. The album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and number 6 in the UK. While falling short of the number 2 debut for her previous album, Boys for Pele 1996, From the Choirgirl Hotel is. 2 x CD broadcast set some with program log and cue sheets in plastic sleeve or double jewel case featuring the world premiere broadcast of 'From The Choirgirl Hotel'. On From the Choirgirl Hotel, Amos comes clean with the rock & roll thats always driven her, from as far back as when she stormed out of her rehearsal room at the Peabody Conservatory. Whereas 1994s Under the Pink and 1996s Boys for Pele strove to extend Amos voice-and-piano foundation into different areas - R&B and dance - From the Choirgirl Hotel closes up shop and starts over with a live-band recording. Throughout the album, Amos throws herself and her various keyboards into bass-drum-guitar ensembles augmented by percussion loops and string sections. While she was recording the album, she married her long-term boyfriend. As expected, both events cryptically wind their way into the album, which arguably has Amos' most personal lyrics since Little Earthquakes. The surprise is, From the Choirgirl Hotel is considerably more accessible than its immediate predecessor, Boys for Pele. Tori has opened up her sound by working live with a full band, bringing a. Electronic Press Kit for the Tori Amos album From The Choirgirl Hotel 1998. My favorite Tori Amos album to date finds Tori experimenting for the first time with a band. On all her previous efforts, Amos recorded herself and the piano or harpsicord first, and add other musicians' instrumentations later. The album continues to show the songstress challenging herself and her listeners, penning intense songs largely centered around a miscarriage that she suffered though not all of the songs touch on the subject. From the Choirgirl hotel has all of that, plus an atmosphere that makes you feel you are sneaking into a completely different world. Its claustrophobic, submarine, dark, and fascinating. From the Choirgirl Hotel is not a typical Amos album that would be the more traditional singer-songwriter fare of Little Earthquakes. But it came in the centre of a stretch from 1996-99 during which she seemed to be pushing the form further out in every direction at once more intense, more complex, more experimental and, in pulling it off, becoming an even more powerful artist.
