the fact that DJs have fallen over themselves to condemn this song for mashing together elements from other songs when that is the very thing DJing as a profession is built on is absolutely hilarious, and I doubt it would have gotten these kinds of takes if it had not been a #1 hit pop song. the pop music of the hour has always been derided as trash for little substantive reason other than being popular (remember that "listening to the Beatles without earmuffs" line james bond has in the movie goldfinger?), and I especially laugh at the idea that sampling or interpolating elements from other songs is "stealing" when anyone sampling anything nowadays is pretty much mandated in a post-biz markie world to account for royalties and/or co-writer credits to the artists they sample.sugababes turned this song into their own unique entity from adina howard's still excellent original (which also uses samples, whodathunk it?), and helped revive interest in gary numan's back catalogue while they were at it; numan himself is on record as being a fan of this song as well. so I really don't see the point in pulling out the same tired old arguments about how pop music = bad and sampling = stealing here. it's a good song from a pretty solid pop group, case closed

djhustler - I think you maybe miss the point of this single. It was a pretty ballsy move by The Sugababes label to tie them in to the 'mash-up' thing that had been happening in the clubs around that time. This was produced by Richard X who had released under his Girls On Top name a single using the Adina Howard vocal over the Gary Numan backing. If nothing else it's a great pop record.

everything is stolen about this song!!!it's covered from Adina Howard freak like me 1994...and the rest is from gary numan.... this is easymoney in the pocket of the producers

Throw her heart
its a great mash up and if they had not done this then gazza numan would never off got royalties and an new interest in his back catalog!

"Easy Money" if you're gonna say that about the Sugababes version, you might as well say that about Adina's version. You're suppose to be a "DJ" so learn your music. Now let me educate you. Adina Howard's version isn't even all that "original". Her version samples funk singer Bootsy Collins' song "I'd Rather Be With You" taken from his 1976 EP "Stretchin' Out In My Bootsy's Rubber Band". The song also features Sly & The Family Stone's 1968 single "Sing A Simple Song". Now who's original?

Its not 'stolen' genius. The Gary Numan sample is credited on the sleeve and writing credits (and the money that entails) is given to the writers of 'Freak Like Me'.This is a cover version of a mash-up that did the rounds some time before. Numan and the writers of 'Freak Like Me' didnt get any money for the original mash-up. But they do for sales and airplay of this. Now, would you like to talk about it being 'stolen' again?
