The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965 is a compact disc box set of the Miles Davis Quintet, recorded on December 22 and 23, 1965, and released on Legacy Records in July 1995, catalogue CK 66955. It comprises recordings of seven performance sets over the two nights by the second great Davis quintet at the now-defunct Plugged Nickel nightclub in Chicago. A single-disc sampler, Highlights from the Plugged Nickel, catalogue CK 67377, was released by Legacy on November 14, 1995, and was reissued on. Miles Davis. This eight-CD set captures Miles Daviss second great quintet at its fiercest, loose with both the blossoming of familiarity between the players and the broadness of its attacks on the mostly well known tunes the group called during two nights at Chicagos Plugged Nickel in 1965. And you can hear it all, from The Theme that closed the quintets sets to multiple, radically different takes of several tunes. Davis formed this band with just its heated potential in mind, opting for youth in Wayne Shorters tenor sax, Herbie Hancocks piano, Ron Carters bass, and, especially, Tony Williamss unl. All the music that trumpeter Miles Davis and his second classic quintet with tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams played at the Plugged Nickel in Chicago on two nights in 1965 has been released on this eight-CD box. Davis, as is well known, was angry at Teo Macero for his role in releasing the incomplete album Quiet Nights very much against Miles' wishes, so he turned in live set after live set to fulfill his contract between 1963 and 1966. Columbia had already issued Friday and Saturday Night at the Blackhawk and Live at Carnegie Hall, both recorded in 1961, and likely didn't wish to release more live Miles to start with, but they then hit paydirt with My Funny Valentine and its companion Four and More. Davis and saxman Wayne Shorter blow like men possessed on the barn-burner Agitation. Even Miles' cool-school standard So What erupts into an exploratory frenzy, with drummer Tony Williams' explosive interjections egging the frontline on. And the angular, minimalist tone of the ballad Yesterdays shows it's. Complete Live At Plugged Nickel 1965 7xCD, Comp Box. Sony Records. Vendi questa versione. Video 2 Modifica. When Miles brought his second great quintet to the Plugged Nickel in Chicago shortly before Christmas 1965 for a two night engagement, the quintet had already been recording together for a number of years. So, it is interesting, that with the exception of Agitation, Davis chose rather to concentrate on radical explorations of his old band book.
