Navigating across the lines, from the arrhythmic machine spook of the album's opener 'Autoseek' via the straight out thumping and jacking pulse of 'Hypochondriac' and heavy-lidded breakbeat of 'Sleep Spindle' onto the kosmische-infused vibrations of 'Telemetry', vibrant slo-mo inertia of 'Loss' and wistful club-ready winds of 'Duty Cycle' and 'Heal', John threads his way through genres and tempos with optimal chameleonic effect. Cloaked in a beautif. Dead Start Program is the eleventh studio album by American Techno DJproducer John Tejada. It was released in February 2018 under Kompakt. John Tejada's fourth full-length for Kompakt is a succinct, incredibly focused album of complex, melodic techno tracks. Essentially, the same can be said about most of the dozen or so albums he's released since the '90s, but given how prolific the artist has always been, it's truly remarkable that he's maintained such a high level of creativity and originality, sounding fresh and inspired every time out. All 11 selections on Dead Start Program are upbeat and vibrant, and despite being instrumental, they seem like songs as much as tracks. Much of it brings to mind 808 S. Album 2018 11 Songs. Opening track Autoseek finds Tejada sailing in more experimental waters. With spooky circulating washes of synths and fluctuating looped synth notes, it possesses a John Carpenter-esque sensibility in the way he manipulates suspense and tension. Detector is a little more characteristically 'John Tejada'. Featuring runaway house beats, punctured by illuminating synth chords, it feels like a track designed as a cognitive enhancer. Album standout, Sleep Spindle, is a masterclass in nocturnal techno. The new album. John Tejada - Dead Start Program. John Tejada’s fourth album for Kompakt, DEAD START PROGRAM, starts with the angular tones and flustered percussion of “Autoseek” but the straight-up electro-tech of “Detector” quickly sets things right. Tejada definitely channels early 90s techno here, giving “Sleep Spindle” a solid wiggle to keep it moving, and “Hypochondriac” an 808 State-style drive. The slower “Loss” carries on its bassline, while “The Looping Generation” goes for a full-on acid workout. “Telemetry” oscillates with the best of them, but “Duty Cycle” returns to a steady beat, lending that rhythm to the bleepy slides of “All at Sea.” “Heal” dives into pure techno with a little Spanish flair, before the moody strings of “Quipu” add a melancholy texture to the track. An interesting change of direction for Mr. Tejada.
