The Jester Race Tracklist. Moonshield Lyrics. Released in 1995 via Nuclear Blast records, The Jester Race is significant leap from Lunar Strains flirtation with blackfolk metal. This album helped define what would become widely known as melodic death metal , a genre and style that birthed bands like Children of Bodom and later in the mid 00s fathered American bands such as Bleeding Through and The Black Dahlia Murder. Its influence is such that its frequently ranked among classics like Slaughter of The Soul and Heartwork. It is the first album to feature Anders Frieden on vocals and Björn Gelotte on drums. In Flames' The Jester Race, however, pretty much announced itself as a masterwork right from day one. More than any other, this is the album that put the melodic in melodic death metal. Album Rating: 3. Whoracle is better and so is Colony and so are like 5 others. Digging: Wake - Devouring Ruin. Pikazilla September 9th 2019. Album Rating: 4. Nah, this is their best. Whoracle through clayman are all pretty close in terms of quality to this album. There are different pros and cons with each album. It's amazing how great Clayman is and how terrible Reroute is. Like, how do you go from that level of quality to total boo-boo
