Death MetalBlack Metal. is the debut album by The Alpha Conspiracy, released in 2001. Splendid E-Zine's Ron Davies called the album easily one of the best electronic releases of the past year, and later wrote, Whereas a great deal of electronic music is best described as icy and repetitive, Sega's compositions are completely engaging. Andrew Sega had previously written music using music trackers like FastTracker and Impulse Tracker. At that time, he felt that it would be silly to try to release an album using. Mercurian Dusk US black metal band IMPERIALIST have conjured up a brilliant sci-fi themed album that stands out both conceptually as well as musically. miscmaster Can't really say I know my black metal. What I can say is I loved To Mega Therion at 14, Under the Sign of the Black Mark at 16 and De Mysteriis and Filosofem in my 20's. Now being in the end of my 40's I stumbled across Cipher. and glad I did. Love it . Imperialist - Cipher review: The musical equivalent of time and space. Im not comparing this band to Ash Borer or Fell Voices in any way to be clear. Imperialist is way more melodic, riff heavy and upbeat than said bands. Their lyrical themes focus on time and space similar to a band like Mare Cognitum or Midnight Odyssey. Their debut album Cipher focuses mainly on fast and ferocious melodic riffs and blast beats from the black abyss that is outer space. The vocals here are pretty much the norm for black metal ala shrieks from a demon. Cipher wont blow you away with originality by any means. This is not to say that Imperialist is merely a blackened death metal act, as doing so would be to grossly undersell their potency. Rather, they offer pure black metal, supplemented with riff techniques derived from death metal and thrash, to craft a richly textured riffscape think Dissections blistering tremolo runs spliced with 00s era Immortal, and youll have a decent idea of the groundwork laid here. Clever though Ciphers songs can be, Imperialists performances are absolutely vital to the records sense of heaviness and savagery
