Sending feedback. Fame is a song recorded by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. It was released on his 1975 album Young Americans and was later issued as the album's second single by RCA Records in July 1975. Written by Bowie, Carlos Alomar and former Beatle John Lennon, it was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City in January 1975. It is a funk rock song that represents Bowie's and Lennon's dissatisfaction with the troubles of fame and stardom. The song was a major commercial success in North. You like David Bowie His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Hunky Dory came out in '71, I think he really came into the mainstream, commercially and artistically. And I'm not surprised it's called Fame and Fashion, the two things that seemed most important to Bowie. Since he was essentially a popular artist, there is relatively little prog in these selections. Bowie's 1980 album Scary Monsters is so incredible that for the next 20 years countless rock critics said that whatever new album he put out was his best since Scary Monsters. In some small ways, this is the fourth album of the Berlin Trilogy, even though it was recorded entirely in New York and London. This time he leaned more on the former, and scored hits with Fashion and the Space Oddity sequel Ashes to Ashes. David Bowie was halfway through writing a concept album about George Orwell's classic novel 1984 when he ran into a tiny snag: Orwell's estate denied him the rights to the book. He describes his groundbreaking look as a cross between Nijinksy and Woolworths. Always ahead of time, Bowie plays with gender-bending fashion with the mom hair and Caitlyn Jenner-style sunglasses.
